Powers of the hidden world

Factions & the Hoard

The Gilded Jackals — the Acquisition Economy

Not an army — the hidden world's most successful acquisition house: part auction empire, part poaching syndicate, part dynasty-restoration cult. Led by Aurel Goldfang, a collector at divine scale who wants to shelve the world, not rule it. Design thesis: the crew feel them as pests; the reader knows they are predators — "gnats of a dragon."

  • Tier 1 · The Gilt — "magpies": relic skimmers & poachers made to look like common bandits.
  • Tier 2 · Retrieval Franchises — trap-crews taking commissions; subcontract the Chainwrights.
  • Tier 3 · Fang-Ranked Hunters — bloodline authenticators; the tier that watches (never fights — the scariest).
  • Tier 4 · The High Retrieval — Aurel's own: Regalia, royal bloodlines, thrones. Unseen in S1.
  • Tier 5 · The Sun-Serpent Temple — the absorbed clergy; a stolen conscience worn as vestments. Ixtli's home.

The Collection's three wings: the Reliquary (erased relics), the Menagerie (living captured beasts), the Gallery (people — bloodline assets "kept safe from choice").

The Three Hunts & the Powers Beyond

Three factions learned of Riven's bloodline the night he burned blue, and drove the Long Chase:

  • The Gilded Jackals — elegant bloodline hunters who treat lost dynasties as unclaimed property.
  • The Covenant of Aeternum — wanted the resonance mapped.
  • The Infernal Pantheon — squeezes realms until the truth pops out; later drills Fallen Gods for fuel.
  • The Celestial Inquisition — declared the heir an "anathema-in-motion."

Other powers on the board: the Void Legion (Nyxarion's counterfeit of Aethernox); the Voss network (hidden-world officials summoning the Choir with stolen voices); the Vantari Order & the Ninth Seat; the Blood Courts; the Moon-Ward elders; and the eclipse-marked Client — a buyer worse than the Jackals, for whom Aurel is only a middleman.
